What is Soda Blasting?
The Soda Blast System is revolutionary. It is an environmentally friendly, non-destructive, non-abrasive blasting process using specially formulated granules of sodium bicarbonate (Baking Soda) and controlled amounts of compressed air. No harmful conventional chemical cleaning products are used.
Soda Blast media is FDA approved, non-toxic, water-soluble and contains no free silica: it is non-sparking, non-flammable, non-hazardous, and environmentally safe.
The Soda Blasting technique is fast becoming the preferred method for cleaning and restoring many historic and architectural buildings, monuments, commercial buildings and residential properties, industrial and engineering works, automotive industry, food processing, and marine structures.
Baking Soda is an extremely friable material which micro fragments upon impact, literally taking away surface materials from the substrate without causing damage to the host material. Soda particles fracture into smaller particles on impact thus providing the energy for a thorough cleaning action while softening the impact on the substrate.
The angular nature of bicarbonate crystals, when delivered under relatively low pressure (25psi to 90psi) and at a high velocity will scour virtually any coating from the substrate without harming it. This action enables paint, dirt, mold/mildews, oil, grease, soot and other contaminants to be removed efficiently without damaging the material beneath it.
Answers to some of your questions you might have
Unique Cutting Action
Soda blast media offers the unique properties of sodium bicarbonate, the primary ingredient. The softness (Mohs Hardness Scale=2.4) and friable nature of this crystal produces a unique cutting action with little or no effect on most substrates. For example, thick coatings can be removed from glass without any etching effect.
We are happy to do our part in preserving the heritage of Texas by working and consulting with commercial property owners and trusts, asset management companies, facility managers, architects and building surveyors who want clarity, support and best practice solutions on how to clean, restore, protect and maintain their project.
